Pretoria - The Department of Human Settlements is warning small companies against a scam in which fraudsters claiming to be from the department ask for quotes.
The scammers have been sending emails to unsuspecting companies and getting them to do a quote on certain items required by the department. They are then told which supplier they can acquire the goods from and will have to deposit money into that supplier's bank account.
The department's Ndivhuwo Mabaya says a Gauteng woman lost R700 000 after falling prey. He says they've opened about 20 cases.
