TAC hearing complaints 'not new' | News Article

Bloemfontein - The Free State Department of Health says problems that are tabled at today's Treatment Action Campaign’s public hearings at the University of the Free State are not new.

According to spokesperson Tebogo Oepeng, they have been through similar engagements and believe that people have been brainwashed. He says they can however not stop the TAC.

Oepeng says they are currently trying to resolve some of the issues around the health sector.

Chaos broke out this morning when the meeting was disrupted by a group of objectors. Qwa-Qwa community member Lydia Mofokeng had just begun her testimony before the independent commission of inquiry when Teboho Motseki, at the back of the auditorium, protested against the proceedings. He insisted that the department be given the opportunity to respond to each of the testimonies made by community members about their experiences of the health care system in the province.

Oepeng says they are disappointed with today's proceedings.

Oepeng says the TAC should rather focus on the current trial, involving community health workers who were arrested in July last year, while staging a sit-in in Bloemfontein.
