Bloemfontein - Bloemfontein based national athlete champion, Juanelie Meijer is among twelve women who will be honoured on Friday night at the Tributes 2015 Excellence Awards, at Bloemfontein City Hall.

The awards will honour exceptional women with disabilities in the country. 

Meijer says she cannot believe that she was nominated. She says it’s a great privilege and came unexpectedly.

Meijer is a Grade 12 learner from Fichardpark High School and was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy. Her right hand side if not as strong as her left side. She started out with athletics disabled in 2010 and participated in her first international competition when she was 13 years old.

Meijer is ranked one of the best top athletes in the country for 100m and 200m and long jump. She is currently ranked 10th position in the world for 100m and 200m and for 8th position for long jump and have received various national awards.

Meijer says she appreciates the support that her supporters, family and friends give her. Her wish is to participate internationally and nationally on an ongoing basis.

She is the only one with her condition in her school.
