Home Affairs ID verification system down─── 10:38 Fri, 11 Sep 2015
Pretoria - The Department of Home Affairs has confirmed to News24 that its ID verification system is down and will be offline for most of Friday.
Department spokesperson Mayihlome Tshwete said they were experiencing “technical issues” at head office. He said the system will hopefully be back up and running by 14:00 on Friday.
The glitch affects those applying for and fetching IDs and passports.
Tshwete said birth and marriage certificate applications can still be made at Home Affairs branches.
News24's Fienie Grobler had gone to the Randburg branch before 08:00 to collect her passport.
Grobler said there were about 30 people queuing outside the branch. At around 08:15 officials said the system was down, causing great unhappiness from the people in the queue, especially from those who were scheduled to fly out of the country this weekend and on Monday.
