Crinums defend Netball Premier League title | News Article

The Free State Crinums have retained their Netball Premier League title by beating the difficult Gauteng Jaguars in the championship final yesterday.

The team from the Free State beat the Proteas laden Jaguars 61-59 in extra-time after coming back from a four goal deficit at the half-time break in the adapted period.

The match was played at pace with both teams turning the ball on frequently.
Crinums goal attack Karla Mostert once again showed her extraordinary skill, creating intercepts and turnovers, while her Proteas teammate, Shadine van der Merwe, did the same at the other for the Jaguars.

Crinums captain Maryka Holtzhausen was somewhat subdued, but proved as accurate as ever, while the Jaguars pair of Lenize Potgieter and Melissa Myburgh kept their cool until the last few minutes, when they both started missing their shots.

This cost the Jaguars as the defending champions showed their big match temperament to average 85 percent of their 72 attempts, outscoring the Jaguars who only managed 74 percent of their 80 attempts.

After winning the inaugural title last year, the Crinums become the first team to win it back-to-back.
