NW to get its first White Door Safe Space facility for abused women | News Article

Madibeng - As people across the world commemorate the annual 16 Days of activism campaign, North West is today expected to get its first White Door Safe Space facility for abused women.

The White Door initiative provides victims of abuse with temporary shelter in a room containing a bed, chair, food and dignity pack.

Social development spokesperson Lumka Oliphant says there are currently 27 white door facilities in Gauteng and more than 100 in the Eastern Cape, with long-term plans to establish such facilities in all nine provinces.

Deputy Social Development Minister Hendrietta Bogopane-Zulu is expected to officiate today’s launch at Mmakau Community Hall in Madibeng, which includes the town of Brits.

The 16 Days of No Violence Against the Abuse of Women and Children campaign is a global initiative.

The theme in South Africa this year is “Count Me In: Together Moving a Non-Violent South Africa Forward”.
