Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner (Sting) was born in Wallsend, North Tyneside, Tyne and Wear, England, on 2 October 1951 the eldest of four children born to Audrey (née Cowell), a hairdresser, and Ernest Matthew Sumner, a milkman and engineer. He grew up near Wallsend's shipyards, which made an impression on him. So much so that he even wrote a play about it.
‘The Last Ship’, Named "Best Musical of 2014" by USA Today will play its final performance on Broadway on Saturday, January 24.
