Congo fever claims another farmer─── 10:09 Thu, 20 Nov 2014
Bloemfontein - Congo fever has claimed the life of a Northern Cape Merino farmer, 48-year-old Parie Bothma of Sutherland.
Bothma is the second farmer to die from the feared disease in two months.
In September, 40 year old Kobie Hoffman, a Dorper farmer of Aroab in Namibia, died in Bloemfontein after he was bitten by a tick on his farm and became ill at a family wedding in Upington. Bothma died on Tuesday afternoon while being transferred between hospitals in Cape Town.
A sad Madelaine Botha says her husband became ill last Thursday. A tick could have bitten him the weekend before, while they were camping in the Biedouw Valley near Clanwilliam, but this has not yet been confirmed.
