SA men beat China in World League warm-up─── 08:43 Tue, 03 Mar 2015
The South Africa men’s hockey team enjoyed a morale-boosting 4-1 win against China in a training match at Hartleyvale in Cape Town last night to add to the 3-3 draw on Sunday.
The enlarged team went into the match with a lot of nervous ahead of today’s final squad selection for the World League in Cape Town later this week.
It was an improvement from Sunday’s match, however these are training matches and sides don’t reveal much.
The players have arrived in dribs and drabs over the last fortnight once their overseas club, work and university commitments were done.
The majority amateur South African players are very much out-of-season and this training camp was vitally important in getting the squad as game-ready as possible.
Regular Proteas captain Austin Smith will be the last to arrive when he joins the camp from Europe today.
The tournament at Hartleyvale runs from Saturday to next Sunday.
