SA ready for tonight's quarter against Azerbaijan | News Article

The South African men’s hockey team will be looking to continue their good run of form when they face Azerbaijan this evening in the quarter-finals of the World League tournament in Cape Town.

The men in green-and-gold topped Pool A of the tournament following wins over China, Egypt and Switzerland.

While the side are unbeaten thus far, and Tuesday nights’ 2-0 win over the Swiss are by far their least impressive effort at the tournament.

A win this evening will see AmaStokkeStokke set up a semi-final against China on Saturday afternoon.

South African goalkeeper Rassie Pieterse told OFM Sport this afternoon that they are confident going into tonight’s match.

“Tonight against Azerbaijan…they’re not a great team, we should be winning tonight’s game.

“They are ranked far below us, so we really just want to keep on working on what we’ve been talking about in our board talks and meetings to start preparing for the semi-finals,” the goalkeeper said about tonight’s quarter-final.

“The Chinese are a really good team at the moment and we had quite a tough game against them in the first pool game, so we know it’s not going to be easy against them in the semi-final.

“But like I said we’re just making sure that we’re looking after our own camp at the moment and making sure that we get out things in order, so that when we go into that semi-final we can go in 100% and make sure that we do the job,” Pieterse said about their looming last four match against the Chinese.

This evening’s match at Hartleyvale in the Mother City gets underway at 18:30.
