Agri roleplayers prioritise drought─── SABRINA DEAN 22:05 Tue, 31 Mar 2015
Bloemfontein - A disaster risk advisor for Agri SA says it is now up to districts and provinces to do the necessary legwork to ensure drought hit sections are declared as disaster areas.
Kosie van Zyl says the Emergency National Drought Task Team (ENDTT), comprising provincial agriculture departments, the SA weather Service, organised agriculture and other stakeholders met with the national agriculture department earlier this month.
However, the ENDTT needs people at ground level to conduct necessary assessments:

Van Zyl says organised agriculture, including the likes of Agri SA and Grain SA, has definitely prioritised the drought situation and he is of the opinion Government is also taking it seriously.
He says aside from the direct impact of the drought, farmers will most likely need subsidies or assistance to be in a position to plant next season.
