Five-point plan to tackle farm murders─── 18:56 Wed, 01 Apr 2015
Bloemfontein - A plan has been formulated following deliberations regarding safety and security in farming communities.
This is according to a joint statement issued by AfriForum and the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.
It says both AfriForum and Agriculture Minister Senzeni Zokwana agreed on the implementation of a five-point plan of action to help protect farmers, as well as people living in farming communities.
One of the key points is that both parties will take a firm stance against individuals who contribute to the incitement of violence or make irresponsible or sweeping statements. In addition, the department has agreed to assist AfriForum in expanding its local safety initiatives while AfriForum will in turn furnish the department with its full farm murder research.
Further points relate to improved communication and consultations to establish partnerships in addressing farm murders.
