Parys - As 100 former tenants received title deeds to their homes in Tumahole outside Parys in the Free State through the Khaya Lam project last week, those involved are saying transformation through ownership should be the preferred land restitution model.
Khaya Lam is an initiative of the Free Market Foundation, sponsored by FNB, which has seen over over 300 deeds transferred to unrestricted fully tradable title. Khaya Lam's Perry Feldman says the initiative is changing lives:

He says if people have ownership of their properties it means they can use this as surety for bank loans to start a business, or perhaps put a child through university.
He is of the opinion this would also lead to far more successful land reformation with regard to agricultural land:
