Shoes memorial service tomorrow | News Article

A memorial service for the late Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs star, John “Shoes” Moshoeu will be held in Soweto tomorrow.

The much loved midfielder passed away on Tuesday afternoon after a long fight with stomach cancer.

The 49-year-old Moshoeu was part of the class of 1996 who won the Africa Cup of Nations in that year with a 2-0 win over Tunisia in the final.

Moshoeu was highly instrumental in that campaign and shone during South Africa’s 3-0 win over Ghana in the semi-finals.

Neil Tovey, who captained that team to the title, says Moshoeu was a larger than life character both on and off the park.

Tomorrow’s memorial service at the Grace Bible Church in Soweto starts at noon.
