Hand planting Africa one invention at a time─── SABRINA DEAN 00:00 Sat, 25 Apr 2015
Bloemfontein - A Bultfontein farmer is giving new meaning to the phrase “boer maak ‘n plan” with his range of hand-operated planters taking root all the way up Africa.
Michras Janse van Rensburg entered his hand-operated maize planter into an agricultural patents competition about two years ago and after the design won, it caught the attention of farmers throughout Africa. He has now expanded the idea into various other hand-operated planters and implements.

Janse van Rensburg says he has since established a full-fledged factory at his farm and says he is currently working round the clock to fill a huge order destined for Ghana.

He says although the factory keeps him busy he still makes time to keep his own farming activities on the go, saying he will never be too busy to make time to be part of the planting process.
