Farmers race to the rescue in Edenville township blaze | News Article

Bloemfontein - A group of farmers near Edenville abandoned their harvesting to race to the rescue after a fire broke out in the local township.

Edenville District Farmer’s Union chairperson Pierre van Eeden says they decided to respond because they knew the residents would have to run for kilometres to get water, adding that the fact that the homes are so close together posed a huge risk for the fire to spread:

'Fire contained'

He says unfortunately the home of a father and his four sons was completely destroyed:

Van Eeden says a group of farmers’ wives have started collecting items in town and adds that anyone else who could assist should contact him on 083 692 9716.

He says they can also collect donations from Kroonstad if necessary.
