Bloemfontein - National government should go back to the drawing board on its land restitution policies and first address the rights of KhoiSan Communities before focusing on land reform.
This is according to Stanley Peterson, member of the National KhoiSan Council.
Peterson said the struggle of the KhoiSan to get government to sign legislation acknowledging their indigenous status would only be the first step in the right direction.
President Jacob Zuma said in 2011 that the KhoiSan communities have been waiting for the legislation since 2000. Peterson says the land restitution process presents a sticky issue in terms the pending indigenous status:
