Three Kovsies in SA World League squad─── 09:54 Wed, 27 May 2015
The South African women’s hockey team to part take in the World League semi-final tournament in Valencia, Spain has officially been announced.
Nicolene Terblance of the Norther Blues takes over the captaincy of the side with Marsha Cox unavailable, while Western Province striker, Jade Mayne will deputise.
Hockey’s worst kept secret is also out in the open with the dangerous striker Sulette Damons not available either due to an ACL injury she sustained during training at the beginning of April.
Goalkeeper Anelle van Deventer of North West as well as her provincial teammate Celia Evans both cracked the nod for the tournament while the side also features three Free State players.
Nicole Walraven, Liné Malan and Tanya Britz who all played for the University of the Free State Kovsies in the final of the Varsity Hockey tournament have all be included.
South Africa get their campaign underway on 10 June against Ireland in Pool B and will also face the USA, Uruguay and Germany.
South African Squad:
Goalkeepers - Sanani Mangisa (Southern Gauteng), Anelle van Deventer (North West).
Defenders - Lisa Deetlefs (Southern Gauteng), Celia Evans (North West), Erin Hunter (Western Province), Nicole Walraven (Free State).
Midfielders - Shelley Russell (Southern Gauteng), Line Malan (Free State), Illse Davids, Quanita Bobbs (both Western Province), Nicolene Terblanche (captain, Northern Blues).
Forwards - Jade Mayne (vice-captain), Candice Manuel (both Western Province), Lilian du Plessis, Bernie Coston (both Southern Gauteng), Dirkie Chamberlain (Northern Blues), Kelly Madsen (KZN Coastal Raiders), Tanya Britz (Free State).
