GWK's Northern Cape wine cellar scoops gold and silver | News Article

Bloemfontein - Excellent Orange River water and brilliant soil are among the factors contributing to the special “terroir” of the award winning wines produced by GWK’s Landzicht Wine Cellars in Douglas in the Northern Cape.

The cellar scooped up a prestigious gold award for its Landzicht red muskadel in the recent Muskadel SA awards, while the Landzicht Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 2012 was awarded a silver medal in the 2015 Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show.

GWK’s Wine Manager Ian Sieg says a gold award is especially welcome because you need to score at least 18 out of 20 on the relevant criteria to qualify:

He says the soils in the region, including Douglas, Prieska and Modderrivier, are rich in lime, adding that the signature red sand loam has been deposited in the region by wind over millions of years.
