SA face Ireland in Valencia today─── 09:31 Wed, 10 Jun 2015
The South Africa women’s hockey team face Ireland this afternoon in the opening game of the FIH World League Semi-finals hockey tournament in Valencia, Spain.
South Africa and Ireland are in Pool B for the tournament alongside Germany, Uruguay and the USA.
The top four teams in Valencia qualify for the World League Final in Argentina at the end of the year, while the top three teams gain automatic qualification for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The side will feature the University of the Free State trio of Liné Malan, Nicole Walraven and Tanya Britz, while Celia Evans and Anelle van Deventer of North West University are also in the squad.
The team will be led by Nicolene Terblance in the absence of Marsha Cox.
The Proteas match against the Irish gets underway at one o ‘clock this afternoon.
