SA qualify for World League quarters─── 08:41 Wed, 17 Jun 2015
The South African women’s hockey team has qualified for the quarter-finals of their FIH World League hockey tournament in being played in Valencia, Spain.
Last night the girls in green and hockey played arguably their best match of the tournament thus far by playing to a goalless draw against the 2004 Olympic and two-time world champions, Germany.
South Africa’s courageous and skillful performance means they now meet in-form Pool A winners Great Britain in the first quarter-final at 11:30 tomorrow morning.
Reaching the last eight of the tournament means that South Africa is on track to qualifying for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil next year.
Proteas captain, Nicolene Terblance said there are delighted with their draw and aren’t trying to focus too much on the Olympics yet, first they need to overcome the British challenge.
A top four finish in Valencia win see South Africa qualifying for the World League finals in Buenos Aires, Argentina later this year.
A top three in Spain will see automatic qualification to Rio.
