Police welcome hefty sentence for farm murderers | News Article

Bloemfontein - North West police have welcomed the 60 years collective sentence handed down two men guilty of murdering 63-year-old Brits farmer Mauritz Oberholzer in 2012.

Spokesperson Paul Ramaloko said in a statement Samuel Mabena and Bismark Dick shot and killed Oberholzer, as well as assaulting and torturing his 60-year-old wife, before fleeing with a safe containing two revolvers and a rifle.

Dick was arrested in possession of Oberholzer’s rifle, while investigations also later revealed that Mabena was involved in the murder of well-known boxer Corrie Sanders.

They were found guilty of house breaking with intent to rob, robbery with aggravating circumstances, murder and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.

They were both sentenced to life for the murder and Ramaloko sentences for the other crimes add up to a collective 60 years.
