Afriforum highlights farm attacks at international symposium in Australia | News Article

Bloemfontein - A delegation from the civil rights group Afriforum is scheduled to address the World Society of Victimology on the impact of farm attacks in South Africa during its international symposium underway in Australia this week.

Speaking to OFM News from Perth, Australia, Afriforum Deputy CEO Ernst Roets says their presentation will focus on the frequency of the attacks, the unique levels of brutality, the impact on victims and government’s alleged lack of action:

Afriforum said in a statement there have been more than 1700 murders over the last 20 years.

Roets says if you consider that there are only about 32 000 to 35 000 commercial farmers in the country, it makes the odds of being attacked very scary. He says there have been more than 100 attacks this year alone.

Afriforum criminologist Lorraine Claassen is scheduled to deliver the organisation’s presentation on Tuesday.
