High fire danger for the rest of the week─── SABRINA DEAN 14:22 Tue, 14 Jul 2015
Bloemfontein - Fire fighters in the Free State and Northern Cape have attended to 44 veld fires since the start of fire season 2015.
A spokesperson for the regional Working on Fire (WoF) programme, Limakatso Khalianyane, says teams successfully suppressed 14 fires last week, most of these in the Eastern Free State:

She has urged landowners to ensure firebreaks are in place and that they are geared for fire season, as well as urging communities to be fire safe as the bulk of veld fires are caused by human negligence.
Khalianyane says they are expecting the Fire Danger Index (FDI) to remain orange for the rest of the week, including the weekend, which poses a huge risk for the spread of fires. She is urging caution, saying no open fires should be made until conditions improve.
The Free State and Northern Cape Working on Fire programme has more than 600 fire fighters stationed at 27 bases across the region.
