Hobhouse stock thieves arrested in Lesotho | News Article

Bloemfontein - A Hobhouse farmer who lost almost his entire flock of sheep to stock thieves is hopeful that the arrest of two Lesotho nationals could spell an end to the repeated theft of sheep from his farm.

Seventy-six-year-old Sello Motlalane was targeted by thieves on a monthly basis until eventually he was left with only 17 sheep from a herd of more than 200 animals.

His son Paddy says in the most recent development a well-off Lesotho national believed to have been buying the sheep from the thieves was arrested:

He says the suspect was released on bail. He says the actual thief was also apprehended and appeared in court in Lesotho a few days later.

South African police have meanwhile confirmed that Lesotho police did recently arrest at least one suspect believed to have been linked to the theft of some 327 sheep. However, Free State police spokesperson Annelie Wrensch says current information suggests Lesotho police may have released the suspect.
