South Africa’s Chad le Clos, Cameron van der Burgh and Myles Brown have all got their FINA Swimming World Cup off to a great start by winning gold on day one of the Moscow leg.

 


Le Clos was first to make up for a rather disappointing World Championships in Kazan by winning men’s 100m freestyle in 48.16 seconds to beat Russian Nikita Lobint-sev in 48.58 and Danila Izotov in 48.59.

Van der Burgh the blasted his way through the pool to claim gold in the men’s 50m breaststroke in a time 26.96 seconds to beat ahead of Peter John Stevens of Slovenia in 27.46 and the Brendan McHugh 27.71.

In the men’s 400m freestyle, Brown won gold in 3 minutes 48.52 seconds while Jordan Poth-ain of France had to settle for silver in 3 minutes 49.66 and Damien Joly also of France took the bronze in 3 minute 50.55.

The first leg concludes in today in Russia before the swimming head to Paris for the second on Saturday and Sunday.

Le Clos is the reigning men's World Cup champion followng his dominate display on the circuit last year.
