Celtic do it to the Bucs again | News Article

Bloemfontein Celtic has continued their 8-year unbeaten run at home against Orlando Pirates with a thrilling one-nil win over the Buccaneers at the Free State Stadium.

In big week for Celtic the team made a massive statement last night by beating the Buccaneers ahead of Saturday’s MTN 8 semi-final against Kaizer Chiefs in Soweto.

The was not much separating the two teams in the first 45 minutes, but in the second stanza there as definitely step-up in the teams intensity on the attack.

It was Vuyani Ntanga who broke the deadlock in the 74th minute to find the back of the net with a beautiful header coming from a pinpoint cross into the box.

Coach Clinton Larsen lauded he’s team and said with the Toyota Free State rugby team in attendance, the win was for all the people from Bloemfontein.

"That's the headache I want to have. Some boys were outstanding, and I thought the two wing-backs Lakay and Wayde Jooste were absolutely outsanding.

"Phalane and Ntanga in the middle of the field, and even Zuma before we brought him out, I thought he caused major problems.

"So, it was such a big performance from the team and I'm very, very proud of the boys."

Larsen added that he is delight that the gamle to make nine changes to his team paid off.

"We took a big gamble, had we lost the game, people would have said 'why hadn't you played a stronger team?'

"But we were so confident in what we saw from the boys at training that we knew they would do the club proud, and I'm very pleased with the performance."

Celtic face the Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday evening in the MTN 8 semi-final second leg at the FNB Stadium with kick-off at 20:15 while on Sunday afternoon at 15:00 Wits host Ajax Cape Town in the other last four match.
