Chiefs and Ajax into MTN8 final | News Article

The finalists for the 2015 MTN have been determined and the championship match will see Ajax Cape Town taking on the current PSL champion, Kaizer Chiefs.

This comes after the Urban Warriors beat Wits 1-0 in Johannesburg on Sunday for a 2-1 aggregate win to book their spot against the Amakhosi, who in turn dispatched Bloemfontein Celtic 1-0 on Saturday evening.

On Saturday evening a 43rd minute goal from George Lebese fired Kaizer Chiefs into the final only to deny Celtic cup glory for the time being.

The win by Chiefs in Soweto also meant that they beat Phunya Sele Sele with a 2-1 aggregate after the first-leg played in Bloemfontein a fortnight ago ended at one goal apiece.

Celtic coach Clinton Larsen said that he is proud of his team despite being knocked out of the Cup.

“Once again I’m very proud of the boys tonight, you know we wanted them to leave it all out on the park tonight and that’s exactly what they did.

“The key moment was the early chance that we had that could have changed the complexion of the game, but it wasn’t to be.

“We never stopped trying and that’s all that we can ask of our players.

“Moving forward… like we’ve seen with the depth in our squad we’re very happy and I think we’re moving in the right direction.”

Yesterday Ajax’s chances were made all that much easier after Siyabonga Nhlapo received a red card for the hosts in the 23rd minute for a reckless tackle in the goal area. This saw Nhlapo receiving his marching orders and the visitors receiving a penalty.

Nathan Paulse duly converted from the spot to take the lead which Ajax successfully held on to, to book their place in the final for the first time in six years.

The date and venue for the final is yet to be determined.

Meanwhile, Celtic return to league action next weekend when they travel to Pietermaritzburg to face Maritzburg United at the Harry Gwala Stadium.
