Bloemfontein - 97-Test Springbok veteran, Bryan Habana has been placed on standby for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, which start today.
This is according to the South African Rugby Union, who have confirmed that the star winger, who was originally selected for the Blitzbokke squad for the Games, has been released by his French Top 14 Club, Toulon.
However, South Africa’s Olympic organising committee, SASCCOC released a statement saying Habana is not eligible to play at the Games, because he missed the selected deadline.
According to SARU, Habana would be allowed to compete, should he be required by the coaches because he was named in the original squad.
The Sevens squad plays three matches on Saturday, against Trinidad & Tobago, the Cook Islands and Kenya, before the knockout matches and medal games on Sunday.
