Boks mum on Habana yellow | News Article

The Springboks refuse to get drawn into the yellow card debate, following their narrow 23-22 loss to the Wallabies in Perth.

Bryan Habana, who played in his 100th Test for the Springboks received a dubious yellow card for his an alleged high tackle on Adam Ashely-Cooper.

After a TMO review, referee George Clancy stuck to his dicision of a yellow card, with Springboks still leading the game by nine points.

Coach Heyneke Meyer said he is not going to get into a discussion about the card.

“What happened is done and it can’t be changed,” said Meyer.

“We’re very disappointed with the defeat because we played very well. I thought we controlled the second half very well, playing against the wind, and the yellow card disrupted our plans on how we wanted to use the bench.

Captain, Jean de Villiers who should be running for his 100th Test this week said he felt for Habana.

“We probably made a few mistakes, which cost us, and defending with 14 men at the end was tough, but credit to the Wallabies for coming back. We lost this one and we’ve got to bounce back next week in Wellington.

“We can’t change anything that happened here and have to go back to the drawing board on Monday.”

The Boks next face the All Blacks, on Saturday at the Westpac Stadium in Wellington.
