Pietersen replaces the injured Pienaar─── 08:42 Mon, 15 Sep 2014
Bloemfontein - The experienced JP Pietersen has been called up to the Springbok squad in place of the injured Ruan Pienaar.
Pienaar injured his knee during Saturday’s 14-10 loss to the All Blacks in Wellington and has been ruled out for the remainder of the competition.
Pietersen, will join the squad when they get together in Cape Town next Sunday evening.
The Ulster scrumhalf will go for scans today after which the exact extent the injury will be determined.
Meanwhile, captain Jean de Villiers believes they can beat the All Blacks in South Africa.
“We believe we can beat them, but it’s much easier said than done and we need to sharpen up on a couple of things," said the player who played in his 100th test.
“There were probably too many mistakes off first phase. I thought our first phase play was good, but we then lost a lot of possession after the initial attack. It’s not a massive concern though and we’re backing our systems and improving as a team," de Villiers concluded
South African next face the Wallabies at Newlands on 27 September.
