Lions seen as favourites against Sharks | News Article

The defending Currie Cup champions, the Sharks, consider the Golden Lions as favourites ahead of their semi-final clash at Ellis Park in Johannesburg on Saturday.

The defending champions held the momentum after extending their unbeaten run to five matches with their win over table-toppers Western Province fresh in their minds.

Sharks centre, S’bura Sithole conceded that they may have been lucky against Province after underestimating the Cape side somewhat on Saturday.

Sithole also warned he feels the Lions with be a different prospect on Saturday, after losing 26-23 in Durban two weeks ago.

"I think the Lions will be a bit more clinical compared to when we played them here earlier in the season. It's crunch time now and there's no room for errors.

"Going up there to Joburg, with their home ground advantage and crowd getting behind, it won't be easy. But it won't make any difference to how we want to play on Saturday," Sithole said.

Saturday’s first semi-final at Ellis Park kicks off at 14:30, while Western Province host the Blue Bulls at Newlands in the second play-off. The big North-South derby in the shadows of Table Mountain kicks off at 17:00.
