100 Up as skipper for McCaw | News Article

All Blacks captain, Richie McCaw is set to become the first man in rugby history to captain his country for a 100th time when he leads the World Champions against Wales in Cardiff on Saturday.

The loose forward will be pulling the famous black jersey over his head for the 137th time this weekend in a career, his Crusaders team mate, Kieron Read just described as remarkable.

"It's a massive deal isn't it," Read said after training at Cardiff's Sophia Gardens.

"It's huge to play 100 tests for your country let-alone as captain.
"I don't think it's ever been done… so you think about that feat in itself is massive, and the legacy he will leave. It's certainly impressive."

Kiwis’ coach, Steve Hansen says McCaw is a player who always puts the team needs ahead of his.

The All Blacks won't be making a big deal about McCaw's achievement in the build-up to their final test of 2014, but Read made it clear it would motivate the team.

"He doesn't want to make any deal of it really, typical man that he is, but… the way we can honour him is go out and play well and get a good win," Read added.

Saturday night’s Test at the Millennium Stadium kicks off at 19:30.
