Cheetahs captain announced in two weeks | News Article

The Toyota Cheetahs will be playing in another warm-up match ahead of the Super Rugby with kicks off in South Africa, New Zealand and Australia next month.

The squad assembled early this morning in order to avoid the worst of the searing heat which has hit the City of Roses of the past few days.

Coach Naka Drotské told OFM Sport that they are happy with the signings they have made during the off season to fill the void left by the departures of players such as Adriaan Strauss, Trevor Nyakane, Lappies Labuschagné and Johan Goosen.

Drotské also added that Strauss’s replacement as skipper will be made within the next two weeks.

Springboks, Oupa Mohoje and Heinrich Brüssow are believed to be the two front-runners for the role, this is a according to a source close to OFM and the team.

Meanwhile, the Cheetahs will be playing in another warm-up match ahead of the tournament which kicks off in South Africa, New Zealand and Australia in February.

The Cheetahs have confirmed that they will be running out against the Stormers in Cape Town at the end of January in addition to facing the Bulls in Polokwane and the Griffons in Bloemfontein.

The central South African franchise will be looking to improve on their less than desirable season last year, after experiencing their best season to date in 2013.

The Cheetahs kick-off their Super Rugby campaign against the Sharks at Kings’ Park in Durban on 14 February.
