The University of the Free State Shimlas made a big statement last night in the Varsity Cup when they beat the University of Johannesburg away from home.
The Shimlas ran in three tries to nil as the claimed and emphatic 24-0 win over the men in orange.
In Stellenbosch, the Maties left it till late to play to a 26-26 draw against the North West University Pukke for their second draw of the campaign.
The CUT Ixias are still looking for their first ever win of the competition after going down to the Madibaz in Port Elizabeth with a 34-13 loss.
Two-time champions, the University of Pretoria Tuks shot to the top of the log with a 39-24 win over the champions, the UCT Ikeys at the LC de Villiers Stadium.
Next week the Ixias host the big Bloemfontein derby when they tackle Shimlas at CUT Park.
