Walsh hangs up whistle with immediate effect | News Article

Experienced international referee Steve Walsh has retired from officiating with immediate effect to pursue business interests outside the sport.

The 43-year-old Walsh has refereed at four World Cups and has officiated in 60 Test matches, making him the third most capped referee in history.

Meanwhile, the Super Rugby kicks off in Dunedin this morning with the fifth placed Highlanders at home to the unbeaten Hurricanes.

The action at the Forsyth Barr Stadium kicks off at 8:35.

At 10:40 this morning it’s Melbourne Rebels at home to the Lions at the AAMI Park.

The Rebels will be looking for their third win of the season while the Lions are looking for just their second, with their only win in the previous five rounds coming against the Blues in Auckland.

Rebels head coach, Tony McGahan is of the view that the Lions will bring a physical game to Melbourne despite their log position.
