Blitzbokke retain top spot | News Article

The Springboks Sevens team has managed to retain their lead at the top of the HSBC Sevens World Series, albeit a slender one.

The Blitzbokke missed out on making the Cup final of the Hong Kong Sevens after losing 21-15 to champions, Fiji in the semi-final despite a late flurry of tries.

Fiji won the tournament for a record 15th time after beating New Zealand 33-19 in final, while South Africa claimed third win a 26-5 win over Samoa.

Neil Powell’s charger hold a slender two point lead with 110 points heading in to the Tokyo Sevens, followed by the Pacific Islanders on 108 and current series champs, New Zealand on 107.

The Blitzbokke face Canada on Saturday in their Tokyo opener, followed by Kenya and the USA.
