Bafana need better leadership | News Article

South African national coach, Shakes Mashaba is a happy man after his teams’ two international friendlies against Swaziland and Nigeria last week.

Playing in their first match since being bundled out of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in the group phase, Bafana Bafana made light work of dispatching the Swazi 3-1 in Mbabane.

They then played to their third consecutive draw against the Super Eagles a few days later in Nelspruit with the match ending in a 1-1 stalemate.

Mashaba said there is always room for improvement and said the side lacked leadership in the pressure situation without captain Dean Furman being available for the friendlies due to club commitments in England.

The coach also bemoaned the sides concentration in the latter stages of the match, but feels it’s something that can be worked on.

The match against Nigeria could have had a different outcome had Andile Jali not missed a second half penalty.
