Speight starts at centre for Cheetahs clash | News Article

Injuries have forced Brumbies coach, Stephen Larkham to shuffle his side for their Super Rugby clash against the Toyota Cheetahs in Canberra on Saturday.

Winger Henry Speight will move from wing for the first time in his career to do midfield duties at centre in the place of the injured Fijian Tevita Kuridrani.

James Dargaville will make his starting debut on the wing with Nigel Ah Wong joining the bench.

The most notable inclusion sees Zimbabwean-born flanker David Pocock start in the number seven jersey, and this will make for an interesting tussle against Heinrich Brüssow with the worlds’ two best ball pilferers on the park.

Coach Stephen Larkham said that he is delighted to be giving a few new faces a run against the South African's.

“David made a successful return to rugby last week and we’ll see him start, while Jarrad Butler, who’s been fantastic for us all year, moves to No.8.

“In the backs we’ve made one significant change with Tevita Kuridrani ruled out through injury for up to eight weeks, we’ve decided to go with Henry Speight. He’s itching to get his hands on the ball a little bit more and we’ve moved him to 13.

The last time these two sides met, the Cheetahs edged the side from the Australian capital by 27 to 21 in Bloemfontein, while in 2013 the Brumbies piped Naka Drotské’s chargers 15-12 in the play-offs in Canberra.

The Brumbies are yet to lose to the Cheetahs in Canberra, although the last two occasions it tie was played in Canberra the result came down to kicks at goal after the full-time siren.

Saturday match at the GIO Stadium kicks off at 10:40.
