The Force upbeat ahead of Cheetahs showdown | News Article

The Western Force will be celebrating their 10th birthday as a Super Rugby franchise on Saturday when they tackle the Toyota Cheetahs in Perth.

The Western Australia outfit were one of the surprise packages of last years’ tournament, however this season things haven’t gone all their way.

With just one wins in seven outings they find themselves one point behind the Cheetahs in the standings on 8 points.

However, in their two previous matches against South African teams this year, they lost the Bulls by just a point and by six to the Sharks in South Africa.

Durban-born Force fullback, Dane Haylett-Petty said they will take momentum from their South African tour into Saturday’s match.

The Cheetahs in their turn have made just two changes to their side for the match, with Sarel Pretorius and BG Uys returning to the starting line-up at the expense of Tian Meyer and Danie Mienie who drop to the bench.

The last time these two sides met in Perth, the Cheetahs beat the Force 19-10 in 2013, however Michael Foley's chargers won last years clash in Bloemfontein, 23-16.

Saturday’s match at the NIB Stadium in Perth kicks off at 13:45.

Toyota Cheetahs - 15 Willie le Roux, 14 Cornal Hendricks, 13 Johann Sadie, 12 Francois Venter, 11 Raymond Rhule, 11 Joe Pietersen, 9 Sarel Pretorius, 8 Willie Britz, 7 Boom Prinsloo, 6 Heinrich Brussow, 5 Francois Uys (captain), 4 Carl Wegner, 3 Coenie Oosthuizen, 2 Torsten van Jaarsveld, 1 BG Uys.

Replacements -  16 Stephan Coetzee, 17 Danie Minnie, 18 Maks van Dyk, 19 Steven Sykes, 20 Tienie Burger, 21 Tian Meyer, 22 Willie du Plessis, 23 Rayno Benjamin.
