Varsity Cup dream team named | News Article
The Varsity Cup Dream Team was named last night following the thrilling record final between the University of the Free State Shimlas and their bitter-rivals, North West University Pukke.

Franco Smith was named as the coach for the team to tackle Dawie Therons’ U20 Springboks next week after his Shimlas convincingly thrashed Pukke 63-33 to be crowned as the 2015 champions.

The team sees a mere four Shimlas named in the side, while it has eight Pukke, sevens Tuks, two Ikeys players and one each from Maties and the UKZN Impi.

Maphutha Dolo, Henco Venter, Gerhard Olivier and Zee Mkhabela of the new champions will all play in the friendly match at Coetzenburg in Stellenbosch next Monday night.

The BabyBoks team did however get preference of player selections with the team preparing for the 2015 World Rugby Under 20 Championship to be played in Italy in June.

After last night’s final, ever humble Franco Smith said he wasn’t aware that they would take charge of the Dream Team yet.

Interestingly enough both Smith and Theron attended Hoërskool Sand du Plessis, and representing the Griquas and Springboks.
