Cheetahs loosie depth put to the test | News Article

The Toyota Cheetahs depth in the loose forward department will be tested thoroughly in the upcoming weeks, with Springbok flank Heinrich Brüssow set to miss the remainder of the Super Rugby season.

The stocky fetcher broke his arm in the 13th minute of their 18-17 loss to the Reds on Saturday evening.

With fellow Springbok flank, Oupa Mohoje side-lined with a groin injury, Carel Greeff of the Griquas may get another crack at Super Rugby this weekend against the confident Lions.

Furthermore, Coenie van Wyk who stood in for Willie le Roux at fullback is also on the injury listed with what appears to a fractured ankle.

Following Saturday evenings match, Drotské said the two big injuries were disruptive, but not making use of their chances cost them.

“I think the injury to Brüssow and Coenie van Wyk was a little disruptive, but definitely not why we lost the game. The first half we created a lot of opportunities, at this level you only get five-six opportunities, if it is that many to get points and we couldn’t finish one of those today and that put a lot of pressure on us.

"In the second half I thought our intensity wasn’t good and in the end we were unlucky with our last kick. That’s the way it is at this level, you need to use your opportunities,” Drotské said.

Saturday’s tie between the Lions and the Cheetahs at Emirates Airlines Park kicks off at 17:05.
