Smith accepts FS Currie Cup coaching job─── 06:30 Tue, 05 May 2015
The Toyota Free State Cheetahs have confirmed that former Springbok flyhalf and Varsity Cup winning Shimlas coach, Franco Smith has accepted the Currie Cup coaching job.
Smith will take over the role from Rory Duncan who has been appointed as the unions Director of Rugby.
Last year the duo lead the side to a fifth place finish in the worlds’ toughest and oldest domestic rugby competition.
In the same statement the union rubbished reports that Smith would replace Drotské as the Super Rugby coach from next season.
They said media reports of Drotské being ousted are pure speculation and inaccurate. The former Springbok hooker’s contract with the side runs until 30 October 2016.
More light will be shed on the matter during a press conference which will take place shortly.
