Pressure on SA heading into London | News Article

The Springboks Sevens rugby team has all to play for when they run out in the London Sevens at Twickenham this coming weekend.

The men in green and gold lost their overall series lead this past weekend in Glasgow when they only managed to win the Plate final by beating hosts Scotland 12-10.

Fiji shot to the top of the standings ahead of the final event on the calendar with a 24-17 win over current series champions New Zealand.

Fiji’s win means that they now have a five-point lead over South Africa and only need to secure a third place finish to take the series.

The pressure will be on the Blitzbokke who will have their work cut out for them with the side needing to win the Cup in order to claim the series.

SA Seven’s coach, Neil Powell conceded that the London event it’s going to be tough.

"We are still in it and nothing has changed in our aim to win the overall series.

"We will have a look where we can improve and work on before London. Our goal here was to stretch the lead against Fiji and we could not do that. Going to London we will have it all to do.

"We need to get the confidence of the players up so that they can go out and play," said Powell
South Africa is drawn in Pool D of the tournament with the USA, France and Portugal.
