Naka wants to be remembered as straight shooter | News Article

The Toyota Cheetahs are looking to set the record straight this week when their tackle the Stormers in the Super Rugby.

After two heavy losses in the past two weeks at home, the side look to return to winning ways when they run out against the South African conference leaders in the Mother City.

The Highlanders thumped the Cheetahs 45-24 nine days ago, before the in-form Lions made light work of beating the side 40-17 in coach Naka Drotskés' final home game this past Saturday.

Saturday will see Drotské guide the side for the final time and captain Francois conceded that Saturday’s loss in not the way they wanted to send the coach off.

When asked after their match against team from Johannesburg how he would like to be remembered, Drotské said would like to be remembered for always playing open cards.

“I would like to be remembered that I’ve always been honest with the players and I’ve always been fair.

“I believe I’m a straight shooter and the players knew exactly where they stood with me.

“I think if you ask a lot of ex-players the one thing they will always say about a coach is…that guy wasn’t honest with me and I never knew where I stood with him.

“I’d like to think the decisions that I made that throughout my career never had hidden agendas, that it what I truly believe.

The Cheetahs last win in the competition came during the sides 25-17 victory over the Stormers on 2 May.

Saturday’s match in the shadows of Table Mountain at Newlands kicks off at 17:05.
