Burger set to rest against Cheetahs | News Article

The Stormers are hinting at resting Springbok flanker, Schalk Burger for this weekends’ Super Rugby clash against the Toyota Cheetahs.

Under the SARU guidelines, Burger must rest one more time before the play-offs while Duane Vermeulen, Eben Etzebeth and Frans Malherbe are also due for rests.

Although the season is dead and buried for the Cheetahs, the match is crucial for the Stormers and they will look to maintain their number one spot in the South African conference.

The match will see Naka Drotské coaching the side for the last time before Franco Smith takes over the team for the games against the Waratahs and the Bulls.

Captain Francois Uys hinted that the players will be extra motivated for the match due it being Drotskés’ last.

Drotské in his turn said the players need to be motivated due to it having an impact on their careers.

"We discussed that earlier this week, it’s their job. They’re playing for a new coach, they’re playing for a new contract next year. A lot of them chose to play rugby and not to study or do any other business opportunities so they’ve got to provide for their wives and children one day," said the former Springbok hooker.

"To me it’s unacceptable for a player to say they’re not motivated anymore. They are here and they need to play for their future," he added.

Saturdays’ match in Cape Town kicks off at 17:05.
