The battle for the all-important goalkeepers jersey is heating up in the Bafana Bafana camp ahead of Saturday’s 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Gambia in Durban.
A the shot-stopper role has been bit of a headache for South Africa since the untimely passing of the late Senzo Meyiwa last year.
Former captain Itumeleng Khune who recently parted ways with PSL champions Kaizer Chiefs was in training yesterday and is said to be favourite to don the number one jersey.
He however faces stiff competition with both Jackson Mabokgwane and Brilliant Khuzwayo looking to stake their claim as the number one keeper.
Khune player conceded although the competition is stiff in the specialist role, they will back whoever gets to start.
He added that they need to do their homework on Gambia for the weekends’ crucial match.
Saturday’s AFCON qualifier at the Moses Mashaba Stadium kicks off at 15:00.
