Boks name match-23 today | News Article

The Springboks are looking to play positive and attacking rugby when they run out against the World XV in Cape Town on Saturday.

The Springboks are set to announce their first match-23 of the year today, and little surprises are expected for the clash with their sights on the Rugby Championship.

Reports are indicating that Springbok captain, Jean de Villiers who missed the entire Super Rugby due to a knee in he sustained against Wales, will be named on the bench.

This could see Bulls fullback, Jessie Kriel being named at centre for the game.

The Springboks don’t have many games left ahead of the World Cup in England later this year and the will want to hit the road rugby before their match against the Wallabies next weekend.

Springbok backline coach, Ricardo Loubscher is of the view decision making will be important early in the season.

“It depends on the day, but we’re an attacking side and we want to keep the ball in hand.

“It comes down to decision making so you want to make sure that from a backline point of view, we’re all on the same page, we all see the same picture, in other words we all identify the same triggers.

“Hopefully we can get the ball on Saturday and score a few tries.

Saturday’s match at Newlands in the Mother City kicks off at 17:00.

Meanwhile, the All Blacks have beaten Samoa 25-16 in Apia.
