Oosthuizen leads in three-way tie | News Article

South Africa’s Louis Oosthuizen shares the lead in a three-way tie going into today’s final round over the Open Championship at St Andrews in Scotland.

Oosthuizen will be teeing-off alongside, Ireland’s Paul Dunne, who is still an amateur in the final pairing of The Open.

Ahead of them will be their fellow leader on 12 under par, Jason Day of Australia, and he will be playing with 2015 Masters and US open Champion, Jordan Spieth.

In one of the most congested leaderboards' in recent Open history a whole host of players stand a chance of walking away with the Claret Jug this evening.

Oosthuizen’s compatriot, Retief Goosen is also still in for a shout on 9 under par.

A bogey on the 18th yesterday hurt Charl Schwartzel’s chances somewhat, however on eight under the 2011 Masters champion can still put it through.

Oosthuizen has a great chance to emulate Tiger Woods and win consecutive Open Championships at the home of golf.

After carding rounds of 67, 70 and 67 Oosthuizen is d so is ideally placed to win his second Open and second major title.

Oosthuizen, who won the title in 2010 says it's going to be a tough day on the course.

"Tomorrow is going to be a tough day.  There are so many players who can still win this.

"I think it’s going to be one of the tightest Opens ever.
Should Paul Dunne win the Open, he will become the first amateur to do so since Bobby Jones in 1930.

The 22-year-old Irishman says it's surreal being one of the co-leaders at the Old Course.

"It was great to play with Louis Oosthuizen today. He’s obviously a great role model for me, a great player, someone I look up to. He was a really nice playing partner so I really enjoyed it. It was such a fun day.

"There were a few shots I was nervous on. I was nervous on the first tee but once I got underway I wasn’t too bad.

"It’s surreal that I’m leading The Open, but I can easily believe that I shot the three scores that I shot. If I was playing an amateur event here, I wouldn’t be too surprised.

"It’s just lucky that it happens to be in the biggest event in the world. Hopefully, I can do it again tomorrow but, whether I do it or not, I’ll survive either way.

Oosthuizen and Dunne get their final round underway at 15:30 this afternoon.
