Blue Bulls unchanged for Griquas | News Article

The Griquas will be targeting the Blue Bulls scrum tomorrow evening when the two sides face each other in the second of the Currie Cup.

Springbok props Dean Greyling and Werner Kruger of the Bulls were somewhat exposed last weekend during their 57-19 win over the Toyota Free State Cheetahs in Bloemfontein.

While the Griquas themselves were taught a lesson in rugby by the defending champions, Western Province, the men from Kimberley having been priding themselves on their tight-five this season.

The Peacock Blues have also identified the breakpoint as a key area of the game and solid ball protection will be the order of the day.

Speaking out of Pretoria, Griquas assistant coach Peter Engeldow told OFM Sport that solid lineouts and scrums will be vital.

“We were confident that we would try and exploit Western Province last week, I think we’ve worked very hard on out scrumming this year.

“We’ve got a good tight-five and that’s obviously an area where we want to try and target them.

“At the end of the day we’ve got to stick to the basics and do them exceptionally well and ensure that our setpiece is better than last week.

“We got to be able to launch our attack from our lineout and scrums as well and ensure that they don’t get too many quality balls from their setpiece.

“It’s going to be a massive area in the game for us so I think that with the breakdown and our defence will be crucial.

The Blue Bulls in their turn will be sticking to a winning formula for the clash with Coach Nollis Marais has naming and unchanged side for the match and will go in with a lot of confidence.

Marais told OFM Sport that their good win in Bloemfontein has raised the expectations, but they are ready for the challenge.

“Expectations is going to be high now, nobody expected us to come out playing that kind of rugby against the Cheetahs.

“We are fine with that, we know what to do, just stay level headed and hopefully play a good match on Friday.

This evening’s clash at Loftus Versfeld kicks off at 19:10, while on Saturday afternoon the Toyota Cheetahs tackle Province in the shadows of Table Mountain with kick-off at Newlands at 15:00.
